This setting applies to the following module(s):  
ONBOARDING

This setting allows you to make employees add at least one emergency contact when completing their onboarding process.


The onboarding process sent to employees must contain the step 300: "Emergency Contact(s)".

Therefore, the setting doesn't have any impact if your process doesn't have the step 300.

Checked:
Employees must add 1 emergency contact minimum.
Unchecked:
Employees can complete the task without adding an emergency contact.
